Sky Spirt

This last meditatation session was a bit unique for me. Lounging by my community pool all by my lonesome, I read a book called The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk. Reading this book made me think about my own personal traumatic experiences that haunt me to this day. I as well as many other people know that the only way to move forward is for us to put our past behind us. This can be easier said than done at times because our past experiences have shaped who we are in terms of our morals, values, beliefs, tastes, etc. To clear my mind of doubt and heal to focus I practiced this 30 minute meditation technique.

First Step:

Practice box breathing (breathing in for 4 seconds, holding 4 seconds, breathing out for 4 seconds, holding 4 seconds, repeat) for about twenty minutes in a comfortable position. This could mean lying back on a lounge chair or sitting upright with your legs crossed and your arm out. Keep your eyes open at the sky. Continue looking at the sky as you breathe in and out. From the earliest days of civilization men have looked to the heavens for answers. Let your troubles pass you by like the clouds in the sky as you become grounded with your purpose and your surroundings.

Second Step:

Immerse yourself in the water. If it is a lap pool, enter one of the swimming lanes because this breathing exercise will require you to practice breathing. Float on your back as you slowly swim backwards, practicing the box breathing technique. For ten minutes, look up at the clouds as you breathe in and out. Let the stressors which have anchored you for so long sink into the water below you, let your troubles pass by like the clouds in the sky, become one with the water while immersing your spirit and ambitions to the sky above. After all, in terms or living a prosperous life, the sky is the limit.
